Regenerative Medicine

If you want to repair soft-tissue injuries, alleviate chronic pain from osteoarthritis, or even rejuvenate your appearance, the power of regenerative medicine can help you reach your goals. At the practice, Dr. Milton Chávez MD, SC, expert physician Dr. Chávez are pioneers in the use of regenerative medicine for medical and aesthetic procedures.

Regenerative Medicine Q & A

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine refers to a variety of cutting-edge techniques to harvest and concentrate proteins, nucleic acids and metabolite products to mediate healing. Regenerative medicine concentrates powers of the human body to rejuvenate, restore and accelerate healing in injured or traumatized tissues and bones. Dr. Chávez offers science-based regenerative medicine therapies such as:

  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) — concentrates blood platelets to accelerate healing

  • Alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) — protein combined with PRFM to improve arthritis

  • Exosomes — the powerful nanoparticle in stem cells that stimulate healing and repair

Dr. Chávez has all of the equipment needed to perform regenerative medicine treatments on the premises for fast, safe, same-day therapies. Of note, Regenerative products are not FDA cleared for use clinically, they are considered investigational at this time. Despite this, regenerative medicine is a clinical and research hot topic and clinical trials are ongoing. Depending on your individual case, he may recommend FDA-cleared donated allografts (donated) or autologous (from your own body) therapies.

What conditions does regenerative medicine treat?

Regenerative medicine is used for everything from healing chronic pain to rejuvenating the skin. Some applications include:

  • Healing sprains and strains

  • Accelerating bone repair

  • Repairing cartilage damage in osteoarthritis

  • Creating nonsurgical facelifts

  • Resolving nasolabial folds and other facial wrinkles

  • Restoring hair loss

While results from PRP, PRFM, and A2M are backed by clinical evidence, research on exosomes is ongoing. Dr. Chávez helps you decide which therapies are best for you.

What happens when I receive regenerative medicine treatments?

Dr. Chávez administers regenerative medicine treatments in the comfort and safety of his office. Depending on the treatment you need, he may withdraw a small amount of blood from your arm (for PRP and PRFM) or remove hip bone marrow or excess fat (for MSCs and exosomes). If you’re receiving allografts, you won’t need to undergo this step.

Regenerative medicine is injected directly into the areas where you need to regenerate tissue or heal trauma. The therapies work with your body’s wound-healing process so that you rebuild tissues faster than you normally could.

How long does regenerative medicine take to work?

While you may experience pain relief directly after your treatment, regenerative medicine works with and augments your own body’s healing processes, which take time. You start to experience the real benefits within a few months of your first treatment and may need a series of treatments to reach your goal.

"Due to cerebral palsy and advanced arthritis, my knee joints are a bone-on-bone situation. The alpha – 2 – Macroglobulin shots that I received have allowed me pain relief and greater flexibility in allowing my knees to bend with improvement of my pain by up to 80%.

Dr Chavez and his staff administer the shots in a way that keeps any pain or discomfort to a minimum. These shots have improved my quality of life and pushed to the future the need for any knee joint replacements."
