On August 1, 2013, Governor Quinn signed The Compassionate use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act into Illinois state law. The purpose of the program is to allow individuals who are diagnosed with a debilitating medical condition to apply for registry card to obtain medical cannabis for medical use. The pilot program became effective on January 1, 2014, and, will be effective for four years.
